working since yesterday on this hip hop anthem from serbian maestro S.
It is a great workout for the studio because these two remix candidates
have already been released and it is possible now to compare with the dry version
as I edit. a snafu came up in the form of 16 stereo instead of mono tracks,
and I spent about 4 hours with my finger in the dam, suffering from waves of phase distortion before finally deciding to hard pan and channel surf with automation, so there is a bit of back to the drawing board, but the results are now coming back positive, and I have inspiration to challenge the original track in the next week

After going through and confirming the functionality of the synth cabling,
I played around a bit with the korgs last night. There were a few scratchy connections in the synths,
but I managed to get them working smoothly.
This morning it occurred to me that I might try linking the SH-2 and SH-9, using the SH-9 as master.
It worked beautifully. I get a very richly textured palette to work with and got some good inspiration
for starting a new original track. CV and Gate control is very stable, the external audio input on the SH-9
allows the audio from the SH-2 to be mixed with on-board oscillators and re-filtered.
The patch bay makes hooking all these things up a breeze. Sound from the Bandmaster is Phat and Crunchy!

Man it takes a lot of cables to wire up analog synths. 32 cables to wire up 7 synths what with cv, gate, input, output, arp triggers and so-on. Fortunately I have not needed to compromise too much thanks to all the cables provided to me by my good friends at Deuce Inc.

Well, one of the artists rapping on twinetrax twelve's first order came over to hear the mix,
and we really had a great time finalizing the tweaks. It took about 6 hours to deliver the finished product,
after basic track settings had been made, just as I had expected. Today the tracks are scheduled to be mastered, so it was critical that they be finished immediately. They missed their last train, but found the futon/hot carpet combination comfortable enough and M gave them a ride home in the morning. Next up is a Serbian rap artist, and we have two tracks to mixdown. I am more and more confident of the phatness of No12's sound.

TOMOCA cables, across from the main police station in akihabara, is loved by me.
It was nearly two years ago that I bought a large inventory of cables,
trying to provide for every possible configuration of the gear,
only to find that I have no use for 18 bantam to bantam cables, at nearly $20 a piece.
I have known for some time that this might be a problem,
but it has become clear in the process of actually wiring things up.
So I took these cables, without a receipt, after two years, and they gladly
allowed me to pick out replacements in varieties I needed, even exceeding ($10)
the value of the original purchase. TOMOCA cables is loved by me.

have not been alone in the house for so long now. it's a good time to sort through the hard disks, free up space, read old writings, consolidate understanding, and listen to familiar tracks through the studio monitors to fine-tune reference. the ears take about three months of daily listening to become accustomed to a new studio setup, and we are coming up on that next week, so it is a great time to start work.. and here comes the work... life, gotta love it.

Went out for a lovely walk today, and on our way to the Ramen shop we noticed last week, I saw the Daigakudo bus pass: ice cream and hotdogs. so we et the hotdogs and my wife asked the driver to play his theme song for the little one, I myself couldn't stop singing it for a while... then we turned around and looked at the two clinics for the little one, it is time for her 6-7 month checkup.
On the studio front was good progress, all the machines have their initial settings, after about 3 hours of wiring and marking, and 3 or so hours of tweekin. Final mixdown is next wednesday 2-8 pm. after about 4 hours yer ears lose their sensitivity, like the nose in a perfumerie.
I love mixing. and this one right now is really quite strong, so I get that nice looping in the head while I take my night walks. killa syndrome...
Oh, right, I almost forgot... marinated noodles on the side served with a hot soup for dipping... at a ramen shop nearby. I went there about 8 or 9 years ago, but the menu has changed... after 14 years in Japan, yet another first... and it was very nice with ichimizuke noodles and miso based soup with lots of negi and chashuu bits....

after our guest left, after consuming three bottles of wine with fish and potatoes and creamed spinach,
after doing all the on screen routing, and making send and return decisions, the cable bags are running low.
good news is I am running almost full capacity... never ending story... just a couple more cables and everything will be plugged in.
I can say I am quite satisfied...everything seems to be running smoothly... now out to the warehouse to see about just a few more cables, and a tube pre-amp...worst comes I can make more, and I will if I have to... been watering my mouth at a few meters of oyaide cable for a few years now... all the parts in place, and most every thing that really has to be hooked up for this mix is already done... what a whirlwind of progress.... now where is that DSD recorder?

Using the FIREFACE 800 with the MacBook Pro as Master, G5 w/828MkII as slave, both running DP5.
I thought to maybe mix it up with logic8, but I can't find wordclock control settings there, so I fall back on what I know sounds better anyhow, やっ&#12401P5だぜ。

Christmas tomorrow! Got our tree up, having a dinner party.
Today got a phonecall, and data is on its way for the first in-person post production
mixing service, scheduled for next week. This is just one of the things No.12 is set up to do.
This up and coming Hip Hop act went to a big studio and put down their tracks, but of course were not
satisfied with the rough mix thrown up by their rock 'n roll engineer. So they are coming in to hear some new versions,
try out some different scapes, and maybe fatten some things and maybe beef out some parts with real machines.

Today I rode my bicycle for 5 hours. After eating New Year's soba with some friends, we visited a shrine,
and then spent a few more hours riding around to bicycle shops. Akihabara was crowded, but the car traffic was not so heavy today. It was very tiring, but it felt great to go touring with a bicycle posse. I paid the rent, and was reminded by the realty lady that families who are in mourning like hers do not go to shrines for New Year, only to temples. Then I got on the phone to Studer services in Tokyo to confirm the configuration of my mixing desk which they set up. Great news is that as I thought I have an insert effect send and return per channel. Then I chatted with my friend m who just finished a whirlwind tour of Japan and found him to be in good spirits, and happy to be using the speakers and amp I set him up with. Looking forward to his new mixes on my iDisk. It is wonderful to have a blog, and especially wonderful to have a website.
Well, off to bed!
